Gasoline supplies fell 121,000 barrels to 219.9 million
barrels last week, the Energy Department said today.
Inventories were forecast to climb 2 million barrels,
according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg News
survey. Fuels also rose as stocks gained on President
Barack Obama’s plans to bolster the economy.
Gasoline futures for February delivery rose 7.5 cents, or
6.8 percent, to $1.1835 a gallon in New York, the highest
settlement since Jan. 6. It was the biggest one-day
increase since Dec. 31. Heating oil for February increased
4.7 cents, or 3.4 percent, to end the session at $1.4215
a gallon.

Gasoline futures for February delivery was at $1.08 a gallon,
down 1.34 cents, in Nymex trading at 10:11 a.m. Singapore
time. The contract dropped 8.04 cents to $1.0934 a gallon
yesterday, the lowest settlement since Jan. 12. Futures
are up 7.1 percent for the year and are 52 percent lower
than a year ago.

Refineries operated at 84.6 percent of capacity last week,
up 2.1 percentage points from the week before, the report
showed. Analysts forecast that there would be no change
in utilization.
